Meta ad image size checker

Meta's feed ads take JPG or PNG images up to 30 MB. Facebook Feed accepts 1.91:1, 16:9, 1:1 and 4:5 ratios, Instagram Feed accepts anything from 4:5 to 1.91:1, and Stories and Reels use 9:16. Meta recommends 4:5 at 1440 x 1800 pixels for feeds.

Choose an image and the checker reads its size and ratio in your browser, then tells you which placements it fits and what to change for the ones it does not.

Checks follow Meta's ads guide: JPG or PNG up to 30 MB. Facebook Feed takes 1.91:1, 16:9, 1:1 and 4:5 within 3%, with a minimum width of 600 px. Instagram Feed takes 4:5 to 1.91:1, minimum width 500 px. Stories and Reels are 9:16. Your image is read in the browser and never uploaded.

Which size to design for

Design at 4:5 for the feed and make a 9:16 version for Stories and Reels, keeping text inside the safe zone you can check at /tools/safe-zone-checker. The full spec sheet is in /guides/facebook-ad-specs.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best image size for Facebook ads?
4:5 portrait at 1440 x 1800 pixels for the feed, because it fills the most screen on a phone. Add a 9:16 version for Stories and Reels.
Does Meta still limit text on ad images?
No. Meta removed the old 20% text rule and says there is no longer a limit on the amount of text in an ad image, though less text is often easier to read on a phone.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The checker reads the image in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
