What is Meta Andromeda?

Meta Andromeda is the machine learning system Meta uses for ads retrieval, the first stage of deciding which ad a person sees. Meta described it on its engineering blog in December 2024. For each ad opportunity, Andromeda narrows tens of millions of candidate ads to a few thousand, and larger ranking models then choose the final ads. Meta reported a 6% recall improvement and an 8% ads quality improvement on selected segments.

Meta links Andromeda to Advantage+ automation and to creative diversification, saying the focus has shifted from niche targeting to a wider range of creative. Specific rules about how many ads to run, or how different they must look, come from practitioners rather than Meta.
